Five in a row for Cougars
MORRISTOWN _ Chatham's Regan Kology has made a habit of deflecting attention and praise.
Kology doesn't swim for herself. She swims for her teammates because of what they do for her. Their support and wild cheering propel her, not her exceptional talent and determination.
Cougars win battle of unbeatens
WARREN _ Banish the notion that swimmers are focused, blinders-on types of athletes.
Chatham junior Reagan Kology certainly isn't and, apparently, neither are her teammates.
Panthers edge out Roxbury
CONVENT STATION _ Cara Cannilla wanted to inform her teammates on the St. Elizabeth swim team exactly what was needed when the Panthers' meet against Roxbury headed into the final event.
Right before the 400 freestyle relay, Cannilla approached Mackenzie Collins, Maura Mullaney and Shannon Law-Clark and told them the outcome would be determined by this race. Cannilla had gotten her information from a very reliable source - coach Greg Yarnall.
Panthers lose in Non-Public B
CLIFTON _ Tough. Very difficult. Certainly not impossible.
That's how St. Elizabeth senior Melissa Feeney viewed the Panthers' Non-Public B semifinal swim meet against Mount St. Dominic on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Mendham moves into final
MORRISTOWN _ Mendham swim coach Karen McCourt did her best to resist. A pole and McCourt's tight grip weren't enough to keep the Minutemen from their final goal.
McCourt succeeded in holding on - for awhile - then, with lots of help from her swimmers, she hit the water.
Mendham's Scheidl sets record in 100-meter freestyle
MORRISTOWN _ Chatham's five captains couldn't say it enough: Don't worry about winning your race.
While it seems like a laid-back approach, it actually was the ideal strategy.
Weary Cougars come on strong
MORRISTOWN _ Chatham's Taryn McLaughlin knows and accepts that swimmers don't get or want much rest.
"I'm always prepared to swim tired," McLaughlin said. "That's just how it is."
Long-awaited win for Kinnelon
MOUNTAIN LAKES _ Kinnelon's victory over Mountain Lakes in swimming was a monumental one but it also was fleeting.
Before the Colts left the pool area at the Lakeland Hills YMCA on Tuesday, their coach, Brian Boardman, asked his swimmers to put it behind them.
